Top Movie Rentals According To Netflix

By

Netflix has several wonderful ways of listing the most popular movies of all time. You can browse through movies according to the top movie award types, such as the Academy Awards, the American Film Institute awards, Independent Spirit Awards and many others.

For quick, up to date accounting of the most popular and most rented movies, take a look at Netflix Top 100, which can be found at http://www.netflix.com/Top100. There are also 'Top 25' sections for the various genres of film, from action and adventure to foreign films and special interest.

This month of August, 2006 the overall most rented 25 movies are as follows:

  1. Crash
  2. Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  3. Million Dollar Baby
  4. The Aviator
  5. Hotel Rwanda
  6. Walk the Line
  7. The Notebook
  8. Wedding Crashers
  9. Ray
  10. Mystic River
  11. Finding Neverland
  12. Hitch
  13. Sideways
  14. National

    Treasure
  15. Collateral
  16. Man on Fire
  17. The Terminal
  18. Spanglish
  19. Ocean's Twelve
  20. Batman Begins
  21. War of the Worlds
  22. The Bourne Supremacy
  23. Napoleon Dynamite
  24. The Manchurian Candidate
  25. Sahara

Keep in mind that the most rented movies differ from the best rated movies. Of the 25 movies listed above, only one holds a five star rating in Netflix' system of movie ratings. 'Batman Begins' is rated 5 stars, but is currently rated in 20th place on the Netflix Top 100. 'The Day After Tomorrow' is on the Netflix Top 100 in 28th place though it has a rating of less than 3 stars.

I may choose a movie according to the Netflix Top 100 from time to time, but this is primarily to make sure I'm not missing something that I may enjoy and others have found to be good. For the most part I'd rather choose movies based on how they were rated by other Netflix users.

I also like to rent movies according to the critics' picks and big film awards as mentioned above. I like the idea of seeing the movies that whole generations have deemed top choices, and choosing movies from the awards list is a great way to make sure you see all the movies loved by millions of people.
